About

PHILOSOPHY:

One River Mission Retreat Center is an opportunity to put your faith into action while reflecting upon what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. We are all part of One River of life that has been renewed by Jesus Christ. Our lives are like a waterwheel—where the Holy Spirit is constantly being poured over us, and we are constantly pouring that Spirit back out into the world. It is up to us how we share this life-giving water with others. It is through Jesus Christ that we have been able to become part of this River of Life where we are renewed through that water every day. Jesus has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit in our baptism, and now we are called to go out and share this gift with the world. It is by nurturing the Spirit within us that we are able to then share that Spirit with others in mission.

In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus’s disciples gathered at a mountain where they saw Jesus and worshiped him. Then Jesus sent them to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them all that Jesus had taught. One River is situated in the mountains of New York, a place where participates can come and see Jesus in the nature and creation that surrounds them. A place where they will be radically welcomed by St. Peter’s Lutheran Church to then be sent into New York City to continue to do God’s work. Afterwards, they will go home to share all they have learned.
